Cancer
Prevention
Cancer is generally preventable with tailored diet,
supplements and mind-body techniques. Certain people are at
risk for particular cancers because of their family history
and/or lifestyle and/or environmental exposure and should be
counseled with an optimal preventative strategy to reduce
their risk of succumbing to cancer. Major cancers such as
breast, colon, prostate, and lung are all preventable to
various extents and Dr. Chang at Meridian will assess your
risk as well as customize a dietary as well as supplements
program to help you reduce your specific cancer risks.
Diagnosis and Treatment Strategies
Alternative cancer treatment advice is not limited to
specific alternative therapies but also includes
sophisticated review of all your treatment and diagnostic
options, especially when there is a dilemma as in the case
of men with prostate cancer who are having difficulty
deciding whether to pursue radiation (external beam v.
seeds), surgery or otherwise. Another example would be a
woman with breast cancer who has a history of blood clots
who may want to know her options if she cannot take
Tamoxifen. There are also complex cases where a patient may
be in a bind because the surgeon recommends surgery and the
oncologist recommends chemotherapy and it is not clear which
is the best approach.
We will advice what is best for you precisely since we do
not practice surgery and radiation nor do we administer
chemotherapy. We are thus in a better position to give
impartial advice on the efficacy and need for such
treatments. Patients contemplating a drug trial may also
seek advice from us as to which trial may be best because we
are not affiliated with the institutions that offer the
trials, and frequently know what drug or combinations in
which trials are working the best for a specific cancer.
